Case Study
Athletes of Kenya
Turning fragmented athletics history into a reusable knowledge asset.
Active Project
The Problem
A valuable history was scattered across decades of evidence.
Kenya has decades of valuable athletics history, but the evidence was distributed across different sources and formats.
Records could be incomplete, inconsistent or contradictory, and historical facts could become detached from the evidence needed to verify them.
The opportunity was larger than building a sports website.
It was to turn that fragmented history into a dependable knowledge asset that could be preserved, researched, published and reused.
Our Approach
Treat the knowledge problem before the technology.
Find and compare the source material.
Keep facts connected to provenance and original evidence.
Create stable identities, taxonomy, structured records and verification rules.
Use the governed knowledge through appropriate products and experiences.
The Solution
One governed knowledge foundation. Multiple ways to use it.
The work produced a structured and reusable athletics knowledge foundation built around stable identities, controlled taxonomy, provenance, verification and connected records.
That same foundation can support different activation layers without requiring the history to be reconstructed from the beginning each time.
Athletes of Kenya
The public platform activation layer, built on the governed knowledge core.

Results & Value
The knowledge became an asset that could be reused.
Athletes of Kenya is an active project. Its knowledge foundation continues to grow as new evidence, corrections, research and activation opportunities are added.
Durability
Historical knowledge is structured so it can continue to be reviewed, corrected, enriched and extended.
Research & Reuse
The underlying evidence does not need to be reconstructed from scratch for every new output.
Multiple Products
To date, the same knowledge foundation has supported a digital platform, a finished publication and a complete collectible-card design.
Value Creation
Once the knowledge became reusable, it could support publishing and other commercial opportunities in addition to preservation and research.
The project is ongoing. What has been built is not simply a website, a book or a deck of cards, but a growing knowledge foundation from which all three can be created, improved and extended.
Publication note. Public claims in this case study are limited to outcomes currently supported by approved project evidence.
What could your organisation do with what it already knows?
We can begin by understanding what exists, how trustworthy it is and what a stronger knowledge foundation could support.
